John Steinbeck Of Mice and Men

1. What is the book all about? So please prepare a summary.

The story is about 2 men: the smart one, little George and his simple minded big friend Lennie. Lennie is
always in trouble, and George is always trying to help him.
George and Lennie are looking for a job on a farm in Weed because they are trying to earn enough
money to make their dream come true to buy a farm. They were kicked out of their previous job because
of an incident in another village. Lennie just wanted to feel the red dress of a girl. The girl didn't like this
and she yelled. This got Lennie so confused that he held on because he was so scared that this was the
only thing he could do. As soon as the girl told the guys in Weed they started a party out to lynch Lennie.
Lennie loves animals, because they are so soft when he pets them. Unfortunately he always kills them,
because of his huge length and his strong power. George is telling him he won’t be able to keep rabbits if
he gets into trouble. If he gets in trouble anyway he has to hide in the bushes nearby the river waiting
until Georges comes to call him.
On the farm George and Lennie meet a few people: Slim, Curley the son of the boss, Carlson and Candy.
Slim has a dog with 9 puppies but Slim drowned 4 of them. Lennie really wants one of the puppies and is
sometimes staying with the puppies at night.
Candy decides to join the big dream of George and Lennie and puts in 350 dollars. They decide with the 3
of them to stay one more month working, and then they will have enough money for the farm.
Curley’s wife went to the barn were Lennie was playing with his dog. That he accidently killed. And he is
afraid that George won’t let him have rabbits. Curley’s wife is talking about her past and Lennie about his
dream. Then she tells him that her hair is soft because she brushes it often. Lennie pets her hair but then
he won’t let her hair go and that make her scream. Lennie is getting afraid that people will hear her and
pushes his hand on her mouth and nose. He grabs her so tight that he brake her neck. He puts her dead
body on the floor and walks to the river.
Candy walks in the stall because he was looking for Lennie and saw Curley’s wife laying in the hay. Candy
was getting George to show him the dead body. They decide that Candy warned the rest of them because
otherwise they will suspect George also. There is a surge immediately, but Carlson’s gun was gone and
they think that Lennie has it. George goes to the river because he knows Lennie will be there. When he
finds him he tells Lennie to look over the river and imagine their dream. Then George grabs Carlson’s gun
and shoots Lennie in his head. He told the others that he grabbed the gun from Lennie and shot Lennie.

2. Who is the main character? You should be able to tell about him/her.

George and Lennie are the main characters.

Lennie is a simple-minded guy, but very big and strong. He likes to pet soft things.

George looks after Lennie and tries to keep him out of trouble.

3. Who is your favourite character and why?

My favourite character is Candy because he had a dog which he really cared about and he is willing to
put all his money in to buy the farm with Lennie and George.

4. What genre is the book?

The genre of the novel is a roman. Friendship is the theme of the novel. The friends are traveling
together to get work. There are huge different between them. George is really intelligent and works
hard. Lenny is just really childish. Besides that belong they together.
