SECTION 1: COURSE OVERVIEW

Regent University's Mission:
Regent University serves as a center of Christian thought and action to provide excellent education
through a Biblical perspective and global context equipping Christian leaders to change the world.

Course Description
Substantive knowledge, practical skills and competencies, and ethical guidelines needed to work in
criminal law area, criminal investigation (prosecution/defense), and evidence.

Alignment of this Course to Regent's Mission
1. Biblical Perspective: This course provides an excellent opportunity for students to explore how they
are to integrate biblical principles into their daily work as a paralegal in the legal profession. We will
explore the relationship between criminal law and morality as defined by Biblical principles. Through
discussion board posts specifically, students are encouraged to raise biblical concerns and consider how

, biblical principles relate to crime, punishment, rehabilitation, and the moral considerations of
representing criminal defendants.
2. Global Context: In this course, we will analyze basic criminal law and see its origins in the Bible, an
international text that gives Christians around the world a context for knowing God and understanding
each other. Additionally, students will develop Christian legal analytical skills that will later employ
them. The work paralegals do for judges and attorneys has impact that reaches the world stemming
from the United States to other cultures who look to the United States for laws. A well-educated,
Christian paralegal will affect the world and how it interprets law and ethics.

Faith Integration of this Course
Christian values are the starting point by which we measure what is introduced in this course. It is the
anchor that will give us true meaning beyond what is “commonly accepted practice.” Faith is the
foundation that will support all that will be introduced in this course. Students will study: what is right,
just, and fair; if Biblical standards oppose the law; how to bear witness; the Biblical, moral and legal
punishment for crime; and Biblical standards upheld in the courtroom.

world. Upon completion of this program, graduates will be able to:
