BTEC LEVEL 3 – IT
UNIT 5 – Data modelling

B: Design a data model to meet client requirements
C: Develop a data model to meet client requirements

,Table of contents

Introduction
In this project, I was recently chosen to work as a trainee data analyst for a new
organisation.
First and foremost, I am willing to create a useful spreadsheet model that can
anticipate the impacts of currency changes on company profit margins. I'II use this
information to design a data model that meets all of the client's criteria, such as
worksheet structure diagrams and the ability to include a test. The design would
subsequently be reviewed with additional clients to identify and recommend
adjustments. In addition, I will explain how the specifications are totally met,
followed by a comprehensive and reasoned analysis of the optimised data model in
contrast to existing customer needs.

P3 - Produce designs for a data model which meet client
requirements.
Scenario
My client required a data model that could calculate currency conversion rates
between the Euro and the Pound Sterling depending on various circumstances. The
client submitted the necessary data, which included the pricing of several types of
cheese in Euros and the average monthly sales. When the exchange rate varied, the
company had two options: drop the profit margin to keep the same pricing, or raise the
price while retaining the margin, which could result in a decrease in sales. As a result,
the organisation needed a solution to assess the impact of these two possibilities. In
addition to addressing the needs of the customer, the data model had to be created in
such a way that both technical and non-technical users could use and comprehend it.
Functions the model must perform
The spreadsheet data model must be capable of converting Euros to Sterling Pounds. This is
accomplished by dividing the base price by the exchange rate. Furthermore, the profit margin
should be calculated by removing the cost per kilogramme in pounds from the sales price. The
total profit is derived by multiplying the profit margin by the total sales. The model should
automatically update and determine the new average sales price whenever the currency
conversion rate changes. By including these aspects, the data model may give the cheese firm
with a full financial picture that takes the foreign exchange rate and any swings in sales price or
profit margin into consideration.

Design - user interface

, Main page
I created home page for the spreadsheet model that is intended to improve the user
experience and facilitate navigation throughout the document. This page serves as a
guide, allowing users to easily scroll through the spreadsheet and locate the
information they need and also navigate other pages of the spreadsheet. The design is
a testament to my ability to create effective solutions that align with client
requirements. I am confident that this page will improve the usability and efficiency
of the spreadsheet.
This page have bottoms to cheese pages, data, exchange rate and result which will
help the client to understand and explore data quickly, as it is important to organise
and categorise data into local format.

Cheese Pages
It is critical to designate separate pages for different varieties of cheese because this
will allow for more efficient data organisation and analysis. With specific websites for
each cheese variety, it is easy to compare and contrast crucial data such as production
volume, sales income, and customer feedback, which can provide useful insights for
the company's decision-making processes. Furthermore, having the data organized
logically and structurally can help to reduce errors and ensuring that the information is
easy to access and update as needed. Overall, categorizing cheese into various pages
is a best practice for data management that can assist to increase the accuracy and
usefulness of the data being gathered and analyzed.
