Functie mitochondrie:
- Energiecentrales van de cel
- Daar vindt de verbranding van voedingsstoffen plaats
Energiecentrales:
- De meeste cellen vormen ATP via de afbraak van glucose
- Glycolyse = glucose wordt 2 moleculen pyruvaat + 2 moleculen ATP
- In aanwezigheid van zuurstof:
- pyruvaat in mitochondrie opgenomen
- omgezet in acetyl CoA
- citroenzuurcyclus (of krebscyclus)
36 eenheden ATP worden gevormd uit 1 cyclus
-> de rest 60% wordt vrijgesteld als warmte
