Unit 33 – The impact of
Communication Technology
on Business
P1 describe how the internet operates
Abdulalah Al-Jobore
Abdulalah Al-Jobore
, Introduction
• I am a technology consultant who advice people and businesses on how to
use information technology in achieving their aims and objectives. Most
businesses must show some consideration when creating transactional
websites as a way to increase their business's growth, and therefore they
come to me as a technology consultant, as they have a lack of knowledge on
the use of information technology and how it could benefit their businesses.
Abdulalah Al-Jobore
, How the internet works
• One of the common mistakes in the internet world, is that most of people
confusing and mixing up the worldwide web(www) and the internet. Although, both
of them are used each other in order to provide the internet network which connect
all people together nowadays. However, in fact they are not a similar thing, as every
one of them have a different job to do. What most of the people does not know is,
that the internet has existed in the last couples decades which is way to long before
the worldwide web.
• Technically, the internet would not be one of the vital part of our lives in these days
without the ‘web’, as it is helps to connect people with the internet itself. However,
without these basic techniques that helps computers to talk (connect) with one
another, the worldwide web would be useless.
Abdulalah Al-Jobore
,• To understand the internet, it is important to look at it as a system with two
main components. The first of these components is the hardware of
computers, including everything from wires that carry millions of bits of
information every second to the computer in the front of us. The second
components is the software which are the prats of a system or applications
that help and work with the computer hardware to perform a task in the
computer.
Abdulalah Al-Jobore
,• The internet itself is a quiet complicated thing to explain, as there are many
computers which are able to connect with each other and exchange
information. In order to reduce the heavy traffic flow for efficiency and due
to the sheer size of the internet, engineering technicians had to split the
networks into many sub-networks which can help to act as a failsafe in the
event of a broken network.
• Not all the computers have the access to link to the same central ‘mega-
computer’ or know as the ‘main server’, which holds all the information or
services we need. Therefore, within each sub-network on the internet, there
are some computers which hold only the information we need, and the
others simply have just the access to the information. This complicated
arrangements known as ‘Client-server’ architecture.
Abdulalah Al-Jobore
, Servers and Clients
• The servers and clients architecture is a computing model where the server host,
manage and deliver the most required resources, information and services which
needed or requested by the other computers which are known as ‘clients’.
• This systems have one or more clients computers which are connected to the
central computer (server) over a network or the internet connection and therefore it
can help to share computing resources.
