P5 Take part in a selection interview
In this assignment, I will be taking part in a section interview that will take place at Trafford College
Group for a payroll position. My team has divided into two group: the interviewees and the
interviewers. As a result, I will be a member of the panel interview.
As the process of interviewing is quit complicated process, therefore they are specific agreed rules
that both interviewer and the candidate must be aware of in term of what happens within the
interview, and what happens to information crated during and after the process has finished.
Therefore, there are important aspect of the interview itself and these include:
Interview protocol
Within the interview process, there are some expected rules and guidelines that are both the
interviewer and the candidate must be aware of and follow them, and these are known as the
interview protocol. It is not a written rules or guideline, it is a matter of professionalism, and
interview protocol includes things such as: both interviewer and candidate should arrive early before
the interview begin, dressing smartly and formal with clean and tide attitude as it is essential. Both
interviewers and candidate have to shake hands when they enter the room and at the leaving time.
A candidate is also advanced not speak highly or badly about their last or current employee. In my
case, I will be dressing smartly as I always do, as well as looking after my appearance and making
sure I have a clean and tidy appearance to impress the interviewers. I am also very careful of the
choice of the words to say within the interview in order to not to be a rude person or too
exaggerated person. The candidate in turn will be expected to do the same as well as following the
other rules and guidelines.
Confidentiality
The interview its self is extremely sensitive and during the interview, they will candidate and the
interviewer will discuss a very detailed and sensitive information, therefore, the interview must be
confidential. We will explain to the candidate what will happen to their personal information if they
are not successful, as well as destroying them completely in order to avoid the unnecessary or
inappropriate use of it. However, if we believe it was necessary to keep their information in the
system for some reason such as considering their application form for another position at the
company, we might keep them safe for another six months. It our responsibility to keep their
information secure to maintain confidentiality and ensuring the candidate is feeling comfortable
with this issue.
Fairness
From the ethical and legal perspective, it is important for us a company considering the recruitment
and selection process, we will have to take in account the ethical issues that relate to the process. As
we know that the ethical issues are things that are not governed by the United Kingdom’s law,
however it is consider as the right things that should be done by the business. Therefore, both the
ethical and legal issues is very important in term of fairness. We will ensure that the candidates is
treated fairly in terms of their seating arrangements, questions that we might ask them, the
information of the process and many other aspects of the process. Treating fairly with ethical and
legal manner, will help us to compare all he interviewees equally as well as given them the right and
equal opportunities to be successful at the selection process. For example, we will give each
candidates the same amount of time and effort in the interview and receive the same information to
make the process fair and just.
