Unit 13: Recruitment and Selection in Business
M1
M1 Compare the purpose of the different documents used in the selection process of a given
organisation

In this assignment, I will be compering the purposes of the different proposed used within the
selection process of The Trafford College Group (TCG).

In general the personal specification and the Curriculum Vitae (CV) are quite similar to each other,
however the personal specification will provided Tesco with more much information in term of your
qualifications, skills, experience, knowledge and other attributes which a candidate must possess to
perform the job duties and accountabilities. On the other hand, a CV will outline summery details
including, personal information, education and history of works, with skills and any other extra
information such as hobbies and interests as well as references. Moreover, both personal
specification and a CV documents are very useful to TE as they summaries the job candidate’s
characteristic, skills as well as many other necessary information. This helps Tesco in many ways, as
it will help the selection and recruitment panel (interviewers) as they will zoom in on a few key skills
and experience on the CV and the specification that the employer value the most. It helps them to
choose the best candidate, as they are receiving hundreds of applications a day, so the applicant’s
the CV that fulfil the personal specification will make the best candidate to stand out from the
crowd.

In these days it is usually required from the applicant to send his covering letter and/or curriculum
vitae (CV) alongside with the application form. This way the employer will have consistent data on
file for all applicant. Both of the covering letters and the CV will outline your own details. However,
letters will acts as personal introduction, as it will give you the opportunity to explain to an employer
why you are the best candidate for the job. Curriculum vitae (CV), however is for an applicant to
write all their details including, personal information, education and history of works, with skills and
any other extra information such as hobbies and interests as well as references. Both of these
documents are required by Tesco as it will help them to shortlist the best candidates for the
company as well as providing them with more information about their candidates.

A job description are very similar to a person specification as both of them supported each other to
fulfil the needs and requirements of the job required by TCG. They will provided the employees with
the necessary information they are needed before applying to the job. Both of them will ensure the
company will shortlist and pick the best possible candidate for the job according on the information
provided by these two documents. The only different between a job a description and a person
specification would be that a job description gives the job application an overview the job they are
applying for in ordering to show them what the job actually looks like. Whereas, a person
specification will outline the requirements of the job such as the qualifications, skills, experience,
knowledge and other attributes which a candidate must possess to perform the job duties and
accountabilities. The two of them are required when applying for a job, as they provide important
details about the job itself and how it does look like, as well as necessary information required by
the person looking for a job. It is very important and useful for the interviewer at TCG as they will
have the job description that it will outline the necessary and only relevant information which states
the criteria you need to meet, and the person specification will help them to check whether the
candidate meeting requirements or not. It will make much easier to shortlist and pick up the best
candidates.

Furthermore, the application form in compare to other relevant job documents are quite different.
Job application form is a part of the formal hiring process TCG uses in order to make sure they have
gathered comprehensive, accurate data form all applicants. Therefore, it contains a standard set of
