What is the initial therapy in Addisons disease ? - Answer Hydrocortisone 15 to 30 mg in two divided doses, with two thirds given in the morning and one-third in the early evening In addition to treating addisons with steroids such as hydrocortisone and prednisone what must also be replaced? - Answer Mineralocorticoids must be replaced although not all patients require daily dosing. Fludrocortisone (Florinef) acetate is the drug of choice and has potent sodium retaining effects. Usual dose is 0.05 to 0.2 mg PO daily. Symptoms of fatigue, hypotension, hyponatremia, and hyperkalemia indicate a need for a higher dose.
