,Resumen/Abstract:
Desde el descubrimiento de los antibióticos, su utilización se ha extendido a todos los
ámbitos y sectores de trabajo. Este uso masivo ha provocado la aparición de múltiples
bacterias resistentes, causando miles de muertes alrededor del mundo debido a la ausencia de
tratamiento. La fagoterapia se presenta como una alternativa que actualmente está en
investigación, la cual consiste en el uso de bacteriofagos, los depredadores naturales de las
bacterias, para erradicar infecciones crónicas gracias a su inocuidad hacia las células
eucariotas. El uso de bacteriofagos para tratar infecciones, es actualmente una realidad en
ensayos clínicos donde el paciente sufre una infección crónica, pudiendo ayudar en su cura y
tratamiento. Es por ello que abordaremos un caso clínico real llevado a cabo en Georgia, más
precisamente en el Instituto Eliava de Bacteriofagos, donde se trató un caso de CBP
(Prostatitis Bacteriana Crónica) con solo fagoterapia tras fallar la antibioterapia. Además, en
este proyecto también abordaremos las consecuencias que pueden provocar el uso
indiscriminado de antibióticos, y sobre todo, si la fagoterapia es un método eficaz y seguro
para contrarrestar estas resistencias, visualizando los beneficios y consecuencias que pueden
traernos clínicamente hablando. A raíz de este trabajo, y con todas las fuentes consultadas,
podríamos concluir que la fagoterapia podría convertirse en una realidad.
, Since the discovery of antibiotics, their use has spread to all areas and sectors of work. This
massive use has led to the appearance of multiple resistant bacteria, causing thousands of
deaths around the world due to the lack of treatment. Phage therapy is presented as an
alternative currently under investigation, which consists of the use of bacteriophages, the
natural predators of bacteria, to eradicate chronic infections thanks to their harmlessness
towards eukaryotic cells. The use of bacteriophages to treat infections is currently a reality in
clinical trials where the patient suffers a chronic infection, and can help in its cure and
treatment. This is why we will address a real clinical case carried out in Georgia, more
precisely at the Eliava Bacteriophage Institute, where a case of CBP (Chronic Bacterial
Prostatitis) was treated with phage therapy alone after antibiotherapy failed. In addition, this
project will also address the consequences that can be caused by the indiscriminate use of
antibiotics, and above all, whether phage therapy is an effective and safe method to
counteract these resistances, visualising the benefits and consequences that it can bring us
clinically speaking. As a result of this work, and with all the sources consulted, we could
conclude that phage therapy could become a reality.
