Pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, cognitive impairment, obesity, aging,
prostate surgery/injury to the sphincter in men, alpha antagonists may
cause or worsen UI, ACEi causing cough
What is urge urinary incontinence?
Leakage of urine associated with urgency; bladder detrussor muscle
over activity due to involuntary bladder contractions

Urgency, frequent urination (more than 8x/day), nocturia, nocturnal
incontinence
How much pee comes out in UUI?
A lot
UUI Risk Factors
Normal aging, diabetes, neurologic disease, bladder outlet obstruction,
diuretics, alcohol, ACH inhibitors
What is overflow incontinence?
Urethral activity and/or bladder underactivity; result of overfilled and
distended bladder that is unable to empty
Overflow Incontinence Symptoms
Lower abdominal fullness, hesitancy, straining to void, decreased force
stream, interrupted stream, sense of incomplete bladder emptying
Overflow Incontinence Risk Factors
BPH or prostate cancer, denervation due to pelvic surgery, alpha
agonists, TCA, cough/cold meds, diet pills, anticholinergics, CCBs,
narcotics, antipsychotics

Unable to access toilet or unaware of need to urinate
