Symptoms- Ascaris lumbricoides or suum - ANS-Often no symptoms, if present
symptoms are light and may include abdominal pain. Sometimes heavy infection loads
can cause intestinal blockage.
Transmission- Ascaris lumbricoides or suum - ANS-Eggs are consumed after coming
into contact with infected soil (soil infected by infected individual defecating on soil) or
not properly washing fruits or vegetables.
Vulnerable groups- Ascaris lumbricoides or suum - ANS-Most often people get this from
living in areas with poor sanitation and where human feces is used as fertilizer.
Symptoms- Hookworms - ANS-High-intensity infections are rare in adults. Anaemia and
protein deficiency can be caused by blood loss at attachment site.
Transmission- Hookworms - ANS-Filariform larva penetrate human skin after developing
within the soil. They travel through the blood to the heart and then lungs. Proceeding to
be swallowed.

Symptoms- WhipWorm - ANS-Light infections=usually asymptomatic
Heavy infections can cause frequent and painful passage of stool containing water,
mucus, and blood. Rectal prolapse. In children anaemia, growth retardation, and
impaired cognitive development are possible.
Transmission- Whipworm - ANS-Embryonated eggs are consumed from contaminated
soil or food. Hatch in small intestines and release larva.
Vulnerable groups- Whipworm - ANS-Most often people get this from living in areas with
poor sanitation and where human feces is used as fertilizer.
Symptoms- Pinworm - ANS-Itchy anal region and potentially co-infection from
scratching of anal area.
