A1) Like previous civilizations, Greece (600 BCE to 600 CE) and its colonies relied on bodies of
water and their many benefits to build its empire. The main source, The Mediterranean Sea,
allowed for societies in the region to emphasize on “maritime trade.” (Acrobatiq, 2017) Unlike
other antecedent societies, the people living in this region could not rely on the same major
agricultural crops, specifically wheat. Consequently, their need for these crops combined with
the ability for trade along the channels, allowed these societies to prosper and obtain power over
the “most contested waterway in the ancient world.” (Acrobatiq, 2017) The water could also
prove to be brutal. It brought on several, frequent violent and forceful storms that destroyed
societies without any mercy. Despite all the disadvantages and misfortunes the sea brought to the
Grecian civilization, it was still the principal foundation for Greece’s success and long-standing
empire. (Acrobatiq, 2017)
A2) Being located right in the center of three major civilizations and impressive geographic
locations, Africa, Asia, and Greece, the Persians (ca. 1600 to 559 BCE) prospered greatly as they
were able to exploit the agriculture from each surrounding society. This allowed them to swell as
a nation and “eventually expand by both land and sea.” (Acrobatiq, 2017) Using the land to their
strengths, they were able to corner the market for trade along the Silk Roads and offer a variety
of natural resources throughout the region. They harvested and provided crops such as barley and
wheat from the south and olives from the Mediterranean region. They also cultivated lentils,
peas, garlic, onion, and mustard as well as the plethora of fruits that came from trees: “apricots,
apples, pears, and pomegranates.” (Acrobatiq, 2017) The empire flourished due to the mass of
plentiful agriculture throughout the land. Without a doubt, it is a principal reason for the success
of the Persian Empire. (Acrobatiq, 2017)
B1) For the Grecian Empire, religion and storytelling were two sociocultural practices that went
hand in hand with each other. It even brought unity to the diverse city-states in the beginning.
Passed down from the Macedonian Era, “an oral tradition of storytelling” (Acrobatiq, 2017)
generated narratives that spoke of powerful gods, brave and strong and clever heroes, and all of
their many feats. The stories they told revealed and shaped several themes, ideals, and even
