Slide 1:
A thirteen-year-old girl in Mississippi gave birth to a boy after being raped. Her name is
Ashley and she got denied an abortion. Ashley is unfortunately only one example of many.
The reason I’m telling you this because a woman’s right for abortion is extremely important,
very medical, and a totally political subject.
Slide 2:
My name is ‘’, I am a student at the university of applied sciences in Leiden. I chose this topic
because it’s something I’m very concerned about. I have always been interested in women’s
rights and abortion is still causing an enormous problem in some states in America.
Slide 3: I will talk about four different subtopics. The topics are firstly political debates,
secondly ethical perspectives, then health considerations and finally the consequences of an
abortion ban. These are the subjects I find most important when discussing abortion.
Slide 4:
I'll start off by discussing the political debates.
Deep political divisions can be seen in the US abortion debate. Democrats emphasize
defending the right for women to choose, while Republicans frequently highlight pro-life
stances. There are still conflicts at the federal and state levels as a result of this division.
Slide 5:
Abortion is a big topic when you think of politics in America. Understandable since it’s still
illegal in fourteen states. That means it’s illegal in 28 percent of the country, a huge part of
America. If you get pregnant in one of these states and want to get an abortion, you could
find yourself in a really bad position if you’re not able to go to another state in terms of
finances.
Slide 6:
The abortion debate is often used as a political tool to get more votes. Politicians emphasize
their position on abortion to gain support, this causes people to lose focus on the important
side of the discussion, which are the pregnant women. And not the politicians that just want
more votes.
Slide 7:
Many states are free to pass their own abortion laws, this resulting in a disorganized set of
rules. While some states have established more progressive laws, others have imposed limits.
This diversity in laws highlights the difficulties posed by disparate standards across a country
and contributes to the ongoing discussion.
