Skills:

 Open > open skills are done in an environment that are constantly changing. This
means that movements have to change constantly as well.

 Closed > Closed skills are skills that will not affect the players environment,
meaning they know exactly when to preform that skill.


 Fine > Fine skills involve movements using small muscle groups. Fine skills are
performed with great detail and involve high levels of hand to eye coordination.

 Gross skills > gross skills are the opposite of open skills. Gross skills involve
larges muscle groups to move and are not very accurate.

 Discrete > A discrete skills is a skill that has a beginning and a clear end

 Continuous > A continuous skill is the opposite of a discrete skill. A continuous
skill has no beginning and no end and also can be prolonged for as long as they
want.

 Serial > A serial skill is a number of discrete skills combined to create functional
movements

 Self-paced > the individual carrying out the skill can dictate the pace and tempo
of which the skill is actually carried out.

 Externally paced > the externally paced skill is determined by factors that cannot
be controlled.

Football skill:

A free kick is an example of a self-paced skill. The reason a free kick is a self-paced skill
is because the free kick can be taken when the individual feels ready and comfortable to
do so without anyone forcing them to make a change.

Passing is considered an externally paced skill. The reason the skill is externally paced is
because it is determined by other players. For instance a football player might be forced
into passing due to pressure being exerted by the other team’s player.

A serial skill can be something like dribbling. The reason dribbling is a serial skill is
because it requires running at different speeds as well as a range of small movements.
The small movements can include body feints and little touches to beat the opponent.
Dribbling is also a continuous skill as there can be no clear ending.
