3.5 Practical investigations
Aim?
to investigate if there is a gender difference between physical aggression and
whether it correlates with finger length.
Hypothesis H1 (one tailed)?
Males and females will show an overall negative correlation between physical
aggression scores (as measured using Buss-Perry, Q1-9, 41 total) and FQ ratio
scores (will have a longer middle finger in comparison with index so lower FQ
ratio scores).
Null hypothesis (Ho)?
There will be no relationship between males and females in finger length and
aggression scores and any relationship we do find is due to chance alone.
procedure:
-Measured participant’s aggression with a buss perry test questionnaire, then
asked to total their score.
-To measure testosterone levels with finger length, measure the 2D finger
(index finger) then measure 4D the longer finger. the divide the 2D value with
the 4D value to find the FQ ratio score. if the FQ score is less than 1 then the
hand is deemed to be more masculine therefore more testosterone.
correlation?
A negative correlation.
evaluation:
strengths:
-sample use both males (15) and females (15)> generaliseable
-ethical—> briefing and debriefing
