4. Doofblindheid.
Les 1 – Oorzaken en gevolgen (18-04)
geeft de medische en de functionele definitie van 'doofblindheid';
– Doofblindheid:
➔ Medisch = Gecombineerde handicap doof/slechthorend en blind/slechtziend.
➔ Functioneel = Unieke handicap (1+1≠2)
• Want geen compensatie door zicht/gehoor, maar meer door o.a. tast;
• Als je doof en blind bent is dat niet slechts een optelsom van 1+1=2,
omdat het ene zintuig normaliter de ander zou compenseren.

– Congenitale doofblindheid = Sinds geboorte doof/slechthorend of

➔ Oorzaken:

• Syndroom van Zellweger;
• Prematuren (vroeggeboorten);
• Medicatie voor hersenvliesontsteking.
– Vroegverworven doofblindheid = Op jonge of jongvolwassen leeftijd
doof/slechthorend of blind/slechtziend geworden.
➔ Oorzaken:
• Syndroom van Usher;
• Trauma;
• Ongeluk;
• Brughoektumor;
• Medicatie meningitis.
– Ouderdomsdoofblindheid = Op latere leeftijd doof/slechthorend of
blind/slechtziend geworden.
➔ Oorzaak:
• Ouderdom (slijtage)
