Helping Hubert and His Family
This essay will discuss the various strategies that can help manage the feelings and emotions of
an individual called Hubert, several factors are contributing to his mental health problems and
his overall health will also be examined physiologically and psychologically by looking at the
effects of stress on him. He became a career to his wife who has Multiple Sclerosis, as well as
caring for his two children whilst working full time in a garage. Their two children are in
secondary school, with the eldest about to begin GCSEs. Hubert is usually a positive person but
has begun finding it difficult to cope with his daily responsibilities and has become more
impatient with his children and rude to customers at work. The goal of this essay is to draw
attention to and enhance Hubert's current mental health and general resilience. This will be
accomplished through researching the distinction between emotions and feelings, as well as
the good and negative responses that Hubert is likely to have. Including coping strategy studies,
the psychological and physiological consequences of Hubert's stress, and analyzing alternative
techniques and support options to preserve positive mental wellbeing.

Many people confuse emotions with feelings, although they are not the same thing. A
subconscious lower-level response generated by a moment or scenario that triggers a chemical
release in your brain is referred to as an emotion, creating biological and physiological changes
in your body Learndirect, (2021). As mentioned by iMotions (2015),” there are seven basic
emotions; joy, fear, disgust, sadness, anger, contempt and surprise”. A feeling is something
which can be both physical and emotional, thus is a sensation Learndirect, (2021). Allyn (2022)
mentions that “feelings are influenced by our emotions but generated from our mental
thoughts” for example, if you heard that a friend was dealing with a bereavement, the
emotional response in your brain would be sadness, and from sadness you may have feelings of
sympathy towards them. Hubert has become more irritable and impolite, as though he is
reacting badly to his situation - he has been feeling overwhelmed by his responsibilities as he
has had to take on the duty of being his wife's caretaker, as well as caring for their children
more as his wife is unable to help quite so much. On the other hand, Hubert may show
appreciation if he has received support from family and acquaintances to care for his children
and his wife.
