Het probleem van wapengebruik en -bezit onder jongeren in Nederland is een
fenomeen dat een lange geschiedenis heeft, maar in de laatste jaren opnieuw in opkomst is.
Het geweld onder jongeren nam aanzienlijk toe vanaf de jaren 60 en 70, en onderzoek uit de
jaren 90 en 2000 toont aan dat een aanzienlijk percentage van de jongeren wapens bezit en
gebruikt (Spierenburg, 2000; Weerman et al., 2022). Jongeren dragen wapens om zich veilig
te voelen, zichzelf te verdedigen, of vanwege groepsdruk en de invloed van straatcultuur en
drill rap (Roks & Van den Broek, 2020; Weerman et al., 2022; Wolsink & Ferwerda, 2024).
