• Jews were persecuted (Anti-Semitism)and • Made in the form of a letter to Lord
segregated as almost all Europeans were Rothschild, British Jew, in Nov 1917

Jerusalem’ (‘Promised Land’ of the Israelites)
• By 1914 – number of Jews called Zionists British expressed support for Jewish
agreed for it to be in Palestine homeland, not state, but for 30 years Jews
regarded this declaration as a promise
• 1880 – 1914: 60,000 Jews settles in Palestine from British to help set up a state.
