mensen heen gaan als ze kunst willen zien

1.1 Voorgeschiedenis
‘Mouseion’: ‘huis van de Muzen’
Onze soort museum is ontstaan aan het einde van de 17de, begin 18de eeuw,
maar er waren natuurlijk wel al kunstcollecties, voornamelijk van aristocraten
Vorstelijke (of aristocratische) collecties (bvb. de Tribuna de Uffizi)
Deze collecties waren niet openbaar, maar er waren wel soms dagen dat er
bezoekers werden toegelaten, omdat koningen kunstcollecties opbouwden
om indruk te maken, dus mensen moesten dat kunnen zien.
Die logica bepaalt heel sterk de manier waarop men kunst toont. Ze willen
vooral tonen dat er veel is: ‘the spectacle of abundance’ zoals bij de
Tribuna de Uffizi.
Het is echter nog altijd geen museum, want de collectie is niet publiek.
In de literatuur over het ontstaan van musea wordt dit altijd genoemd: eerste
voorbeeld van een regeling van openbaarheid van een collectie:
⇒ 1694: schenking van abt Jean-Baptiste Boisot van zijn boeken- en
kunstcollectie aan de benedictijnerabdij van Saint-Vincent (in Besançon), op
voorwaarde “que tout soit mis dans une salle qui sera ouverte deux fois par
semaine à tous ceux qui voudront y entrer, les quels pourront y lire et estudier
autant qu’ils souhaiteront pendant les deux jours, sans que pourtant il leur soit
permis d’en distraire aucun livre; et afin que lesdits livres et médailles aussy
bien que les bustes et peintures[…] soient conservés pour toujours pour
l’avantage des gens doctes”.
