Hoofdstuk 2 begrippenNationalisme: sterke liefde voor het eigen volk, het verlangen naar een eigen
staat en het streven om de eigen staat sterker te maken.
Vijandbeelden: negatief beeld over andere volkeren.
Wapenwedloop: strijd om het sterkste bewapend te worden.
Militairisme: verheelijking van alles wat met het leger en met oorlog te maken
heeft.
Modern imperialisme: de Europese machtsuitbreiding in Azië en Afrika vanaf
1870 waardoor grote koloniale rijken ontstonden.
Bondgenootschappen: landen die militair samenwerken.
- Centralen: Duitsland, Oostenrijk-Hongarije en Turkije.
- Geallieerden: Servië, Rusland, Frankrijk en Engeland.
Von schlieffenplan: Duitse oorlogsplan in 1914 om eerst vanuit België
Frankrijk binnen te vallen. Frankrijk binnen 6 weken te verslaan. En daarna met
Rusland af te rekenen.
- Doel: tweefrontenoorlog te voorkomen.
- Niet gelukt.
Loopgraven: gang in de grond waarin militairen beschermd zijn tegen de vijand.
Onbeperkte duikbotenoorlog: Duitse oorlogvoering op zee vanaf 1917 waarbij
onderzeeërs alle vijandelijke schepen, ook vrachtschepen en passagiersschepen,
tot zinken brachten.
- Gevolg: VS doet mee aan de oorlog.
Russische revolutie: revolutie waardoor de regering van de tsaar vervangen
werd door een communistische regering. (een theorie die gebaseerd is op het
ideaal van gelijkheid in een samenleving.)
Wapenstilstand: afspraak om te stoppen met vechten.
Censuur: toezicht op de media.
Propaganda: het proberen te beïnvloeden van andermans opinie.
Totale oorlog: oorlog waarin de hele maatschappij mee doet.
Vrede van Versailles: vredesverdrag tussen de geallieerden en centralen in
1919 die de 1e wereldoorlog officieel eindigde.
- Stond in: Duitsland had de schuld.
1. Duitsland moest koloniën afstaan.
2. Moest herstelbetalingen doen.
3. Mochten geen sterk leger hebben. (demilitarisatie)
Demilitarisatie: het verminderen van het aantal wapens, militairen en andere
militaire zaken.
