HBSE Review Test 1 Chapters 1-3
What does HBSE mean? - ANS-Human behavior in the social environment is the importance of
understanding how individuals interact both with other people and with their environment, as
well as understanding how individuals are affected by these interactions.

Psychosocial - ANS-Theory that focuses more on an individual and their interactions. There is
very little focus on the individual's environment. This theory explains developmental behaviors
within an individual.

Medical Model - ANS-A model that focuses on the individual. This is based on the premise that

Erikson (stages) - ANS-Erik Erikson created the psychosocial development theory. This theory
consists of eight resulting conflicts an individual has within themselves. The conflicts are: trust
vs. mistrust, autonomy vs. shame & doubt, initiative vs. guilt, industry vs. inferiority, identity vs.
identity confusion, intimacy vs. isolation, generativity vs. stagnation, and integrity vs. despair.

Bronfenbrenner - ANS-Urie Bronfenbrenner, psychologist 1979, created the ecological theory. It
explains human development by the individual, the environment, and both working together.

Piaget (Stages?) - ANS-Jean Piaget was one of the best-known cognitive development theorists
