2. Implantation of Zygotes: After
conception, the zygote begins to
undergo divisions and forms a structure
called a blastocyst. The blastocyst
travels through the fallopian tube and
eventually reaches the uterus.
Implantation occurs when the
blastocyst attaches to the lining of the
uterus (endometrium). This marks the
beginning of pregnancy, as the
developing embryo establishes a
connection with the maternal blood

3. Intrauterine Development of the
Embryo: Once the zygote has
successfully implanted, it begins to
develop into an embryo within the
uterus. Key developmental milestones
include the formation of the three
primary germ layers, the development
of organs and tissues, and the
establishment of the basic body plan.

+ egg in the fallopian tube, forms a
zygote.
- zona pellucida binds to sperm (via 2P
TYP3 receptor) sperm head releases
an enzyme to digest the Z. Pellucida
(acrosome reaction)- (acrosin +
proteases cause Ca2+ to enter and
causes release of enzyme)
⁃ Egg releases cortical granules which
prevent fusion of multiple sperms with
one egg
