P1: Describe the type of business, purpose and ownership of two contrasting
business.

The two company’s I chose for my P1 assignment are Apple and Noorderpoort. Apple is a
company in the private sector, Noorderpoort in the public sector.

Apple

Apple was founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne on April 1st
1976. The idea was to create computers that were ‘user-friendly’. Their little
company started in the garage of Steve Jobs. Apple ( Apple Inc.) is now a
American corporation that designs computer software an electronic products.
The company is very popular of its well-known ‘iPhone’. An iPhone is a mobile-
phone. At the moment they created twenty-four different types of iPhone’s. Apple also sells
other electronic products like; computers, laptops, iPads, smartwatches, Air Pods and many
more accessories. All those type of products are used every single day by almost everyone.
The company is known as the number 1 innovative company in the world. The innovation
strategy’s of the company involves terrific new products and software’s.
Apple is a business in the private sector and it’s a public limited company. Their goal is to
make money. They share their annual numbers and they sell shares on Stock-Exchange.
The company is in the secondary and the tertiary industry. They are secondary because they
produce their products and services at their own factories. They also have their own Apple-
stores located all over the world. You can also buy Apple products in other electronics shops
and websites, that’s why Apple is a global business.

Noordepoort

Noorderpoort is a secondary vocational education school in the
region of Groningen and Drenthe.
Currently their goal is to educate students and be the best
organisation for secondary vocational education.

It is an organisation in the public sector and is also a government agency. Although it is
funded by government and accountable to government, it has considerable freedom to
manage its own affairs. Teachers at Noorderpoort provide a service to students, they teach
and that is why Noorderpoort is tertiary. At my Noorderpoort school they teach mainly in
business, that is why my location is called ‘Business and Administration’.
Noorderpoort is a local organisation and is located in; Groningen, Delfzijl, Appingedam,
Winschoten, Veendam and Stadskanaal. At each location they teach for different sectors.
