Computed Tomography (CT) ANS - Images produced are transracial or transverse. Perpendicular to long axis of body
Axial Tomography ANS - Conventional tomography. Plane of the image was parallel to the long axis of the body
Gantry ANS - The part of the CT scanner that houses the x-ray tube, cooling system, detector assembly, and data acquisition system (DAS).
Hounsfield Unit ANS - The CT number. Numeric information contained in each pixel. Related to the x-ray
attenuation coefficient of the tissue contained in the voxel.
CT number for different tissues ANS - 0 : indicates water
+1000 to +3000 : dense bones -1000 : air -100 : fat +40 : gray matter
Translation ANS - When a source detector assembly makes one sweep across the patient/internal structure
Image Matrix ANS - An arrangement of cells in rows and columns. Current matrices are 512x512
Axial ANS - Represents transverse or horizontal plane. Divides body into superior and inferior portions. Viewed looking from feet up to head. Anterior aspect of the patient is at the top of the image
Coronal ANS - Longitudinal plane dividing body into anterior and posterior portions. Viewed similar to conventional radiographs
