25% rule - ANS-Prevents a rookies salary from increasing by more than his first year's cap
charge.
30% rule - ANS-A special rule that prevents a player's future salary in non-CBA covered years
from increasing more than 30% above his 2020 salary.
Accrued Season - ANS-A season that counts towards NFL free agency. Earned by being on the
roster for more than 6 weeks
Active Roster - ANS-46 men
Adjustments - ANS-Increases or decreases in salary cap. Primarily due to incentives
APY - ANS-Average Per Year. Total Contract value divided by number of years on the contract
Benefits - ANS-Compensation paid to players that do not count against the salary cap. Based
on number of credited seasons.
Cap Carryover - ANS-Amount of unused cap space from previous year
Cap Charge - ANS-Sum of: all salary to be paid in a current year, prorated money already paid,
and LTBE incentives
Compensatory Draft Selection - ANS-32 additional draft picks each year. Awarded for
non-offsetting losses of Unrestricted Free Agents
Credited Season - ANS-Earned for 3 weeks on the active roster. A season that counts towards
an increase in Minimum P5 salary
De-escalator - ANS-A clause that reduces a player's salary or other contract bonuses for failing
to reach performance thresholds
Dead money - ANS-Salary cap charge that remains on team payroll after a player is released or
traded
Deion Rules - ANS-Rule that reallocates bonus money from years not covered by the current
CBA to seasons covered by it.
ERFA - ANS-Player with <3 credited seasons when contract expires. If prior team chooses,
player can only sign with that team.
