‘Anesthesie’ komt uit het Grieks
o An: zonder
o Aisthesis: gevoel waarneming
Letterlijke betekenis: zonder gevoel, zonder waarneming, zonder
sensatie.
Definitie anesthesie
= de leer van kunstmatige pijnuitschakeling en/ of bewusteloosheid voor
therapeutische en diagnostische ingrepen.
= de wetenschap die zich bezighoudt met bescherming tegen potentiële
gevolgen van medische handelen, ziekte en/ of trauma d.m.v. farmaca en
technologie ter ondersteuning en/ of overname van orgaanfuncties.
Het houdt zich bezig met het uitlokken van een “reversibel coma”
De hogere corticale functies worden voor een bepaalde periode
onderbroken.
Het is een interactie tussen lichaam en medicatie in een situatie van niet
bewustzijn.

Anesthesie gaat gepaard met risico’s
o Als patiënt heb je een kans van 1 op 870 om te sterven.
o Tijdens een operatie heb je een kans van 1 op 2860 om te sterven.
o De kans om te sterven aan anesthesie alleen is 1 op 185256.
Conclusie: anesthesie is vrij veilig, maar elke patiënt is anders. Daarom
probeert men om risico’s in te schatten, om voorbereid te zijn op mogelijke
complicaties preoperatief onderzoek.

Definitie en basisbegrippen
= demping van het centraal zenuwstelsel door een anesthetisch middel waarbij
bewustzijnsdaling optreedt en de reacties op schadelijke prikkels zodanig worden
gedempt dat de patiënt niet of nauwelijks reageert.
Demping hangt af van
o Dosis, leeftijd, conditie, gewicht enz.
o Gebruikte geneesmiddelen
o Aard van ingreep.
Algemene anesthesie is een triade van
o Hypnose – bewustzijnsverlies
o Analgesie – pijnuitschakeling
o Relaxatie - curare
Methoden voor algemene anesthesie
= via intraveneuze anesthesie of door inhalatie/ maskeranesthesie. Verschillende
soorten middelen kunnen eenzelfde effect bereiken.
I.V. hypnotica
o Geschikt voor bewustzijnsdaling, bij hoge dosis werkt het ook
pijnstillend.
Dampvormige anesthetica: geschikt voor bewustzijnsdaling, bij hoge dosis
ook als pijnstillend.
Opioïden: geschikt voor onderdrukken van pijn, geeft ook
bewustzijnsdaling bij hoge dosissen.

geval wordt er spierverslappers aan algemene anesthesie toegevoegd.
o Beademingstoestel neem de functie over.
o Bv: bij een buikoperatie is het niet interessant dat de
buikademhalingsspieren gebruikt.

Stadia 1: Sedatie Patiënt is in slaap, maar alle reflexen zijn nog intact.
