Can you give an example of when you assumed a leadership role?
-What have you done that shows initiative? - Answer-S- Yes, during one of our OB
simulations the patient had a post-partum hemorrhage.
H- We had an idea that this situation was going to occur. When the primary nurses
called the rapid response, we tried to delegate roles. However, it was chaotic as we first
start. No one acted as charge and we all kept swapping positions.
A- I decided to assume the role of charge. First I asked my team, "We need a charge so
we can get organized. I am going to start, okay?" Everyone promptly agreed.
R- I began directing tasks to each person and the rest of the simulation began to run
smoothly.
E- I should have assumed this lead before we went in, but I was glad that I stepped up
during the situation. I was nervous to take charge, but I knew the patient needed us to
get organized and that motivated me.
-Tell me about a situation where you had a conflict with another nurse, nursing aid, or a
doctor? How did you deal with it?
-Working in a group, did you ever have any problems/if so - how did you handle it? -
Answer-S - It was during simulation for patient being resuscitated for sepsis.
H - We were performing our assessment and the patient became extremely
hypertensive, had forthy sputum in vent tube, and crackles in lungs.
A - The patient was on a levo drip and I felt like we needed to turn it down. My sim
partner felt we should call the doctor first. I asked her why she felt we should do that
and she did not think we were able to turn the drip up or down. I shared my concerns
that levo is a pressor and he has high BP and we also have orders to titrate based on
SBP. She said she didn't realize that.
R - We decided to double checked the orders, turned the Levo down, and patient began
to improve.
E - I think we handled this situation well by listening to both our opinions and then
deciding on a solution. If there had not been orders then yes we may have called the
physician first.
, Nutrition presentation and one of our members did not complete the work. I tried to
speak with her and find out if she had a legitimate excuse before I took it to my
professor.

Tell me about a time you noticed an error. How did you respond? - Answer-S - While I
was in clinical in the ICU, I performed and documented and assessment on one of our
patients.
C - While documenting the assessment on one of the patients IV, I noticed the last two
shifts had been documenting it on his right forearm. The patient did not have any IV's in
his right forearm that I had assessed.
A - First, I decided to go double check to make sure he did not have an IV that I had
missed. After reassessing and confirming he did not have a right forearm IV, I informed
my nurse.
R - She was disappointment that two different nurses incorrectly charted the IV site and
that she would inform the charge nurse.
E - From this situation, I learned that when I am documenting something NEVER rely on
something someone else has documented. I have to always make my own
assessments and be confident that I know what I am seeing and hearing.
Tell me about yourself? - Answer-I began the post-bacc program in 2019 and have
absolutely loved it.
I will graduate in December and will be taking the NCLEX in January.
I graduated magna cum laude in 2018 with my degree in human nutrition. I originally
perused this degree because I am very passionate about living a healthy lifestyle.
Through my experiences in this program (studay abroad, medical nutrition courses) my
internship at Phoenix Allies for Community Health, and my family members who are
nurses, I found that my heart was in nursing.
I've worked as a server and bartender since I was 19 and truly enjoy being able to
connect with a variety of different people and provide them with amazing service. I've
learned a lot about customer service and teamwork in this position.
Where do you see yourself five years from now? - Answer-1.) In five years, I hope to be
working as some kind of critical care nurse either in the ICU or the ED.
