, Lab Questions

● How does the pattern of your individual data relate to the pattern of results predicted? Hint: See the lab introduction, the

predicted results that come with your output, and the text.

○ My individual data from the change detection lab shows that changes are easier to detect if there is not a flicker screen

between the two images. “The presence of the mask prevents automatic detection of change” (MindTap - Cengage

Learning, n.d.). The lab introduction predicted a higher chance of not noticing a change when the flicker is between the

original image and the changed image, causing the viewer to search the second image for any possible changes.

Regarding my flicker results, one of the trials was received incorrectly, as the lab introduction indicated would possibly

happen.

● How did the gray field (the flicker) affect your proportion correct and RT? Why does the gray field tend to negatively affect

accuracy and RT? Why are we measuring both RT and accuracy? What does this tell you about how different people approach

a task like this?

○ The flicker affected my proportion correct on only one trial. Although the flicker affected my reaction time, I felt that

the ability to slow down and really focus on the images allowed me to make the correct choice of a change being absent

or present. When switching images without the flicker, I was able to spot if a change had been made easier and quicker.
