When classifying the fungi slides, use the following categories: Chytridiomycota, Zygomycota, Glomeromycota, Ascomycota, or
Basidiomycota. Drawings of the organisms are required, while pictures of the organisms are optional. Pictures of the slides

1. Explain plasmogamy. Is this part of fungal asexual or sexual reproduction?
Plasmogamy is part of sexual reproduction, in which it is the union of two cytoplasms of two parent mycelia.
2. Explain dikaryon. Is this part of fungal asexual or sexual reproduction?
Dikaryon, which means two nuclei, is when there are pairs of haploid nuclei are paired in one cell from each parent.
3. Explain karyogamy. Is this part of fungal asexual or sexual reproduction?
Karyogamy, is the next step that comes after plasmogamy in sexual reproduction. During this stage, the two haploid nuclei
from each pair fuse together which produces diploid cells.
4. Explain why pheromones are important in fungi sexual reproduction. Be specific in your response.
Pheromones are very important because they are basically the trigger for sexual reproduction. Without
pheromones, the two hyphae wouldn’t release these signaling molecules with therefore would prevent two
mycelia from reproducing.
