What is the most important factor between physician assistant and the physician? -
Answer-- important to know your own limitations and the limitations of the people
around you as well as capabilities
- important for the physician to know what his/her PA is capable of
- important for the PA to know the limits of their own capabilities and the capabilities of
the physician

example:
- orthopedic PA had spent a few years prior working at an orthopedic clinic that focused
on foot/ankle and hand/wrist
- surgeon focus on hips/knees/shoulders.

Me:
- predicting DLD move's scoring tissue w 15 blade
"thanks babe"

Tell me how your clinical experience up until this point has prepared you to succeed in
PA school - Answer-Orthopedic clinic:
- put myself in patients shoes, maybe they're being short with me cuz they're constantly
at a 7/10 pain.
- Always impressed by patients that were happy/optimistic despite their pain

oral surgery clinic
- taking patient history has given me a very broad knowledge of medicine
- pay attention to what the surgeon is narrowing in on for patient's health history
- always trying to learn what meds are for what instead of just entering them into the
chart
---- this will help during my didactic year

- very involved with my patient's care. from start to finish, patient intake/consultation
--> prep them pre-op --> first assist in surgery --> post-op instructions and visits
- confidence and comfortability with patients because ive been working with them for
years
---- this will help during clinical rotations

Tell me about a particular patient and their impact in your desire to become a PA -
Answer-emergency patient
- had been in pain since christmas but unable to see her DDS cuz of the holidays, was
told that it was probably just TMJ and take advil.
Very frustrated

, - lonely because going through a divorce + pandemic- scared of dental work and did not
want to be in the chairI knew from her xray, the tooth needed to be extracted, and bone
graft then she could do an implant 3 months later.
because she hadn't eaten and had no health issues, i knew he'd do an IV for her.
She told me she had a ride home.
I knew her pain would be gone after the extraction after a few days of post-op pain.
I wanted to be able to take that step further. I had after all taken her health history,
taken her xray, could tell what his treatment plan would be, and I would be in the
surgery and with her post-operatively.

It confirmed that as much as I love my job right now, I do want to take one more step to
be a PA so I could have solved her problem and eased her mind faster without waiting
for the surgeon.

How do you see yourself as a PA leader? - Answer-I shadowed a PA at the Palo Alto
VA who was a Stanford graduate.
While I was there I noticed people constantly coming up to her with questions and she
was just giving advice left and right. I was actually speaking with one of the oral
surgeons in my practice about her and he said "yeah she runs that place". Which I
thought was so funny because she's "just a PA". But in reality, she is a great leader and
gives great advice.

She also had a student with her who was doing their clinical rotations. I really would like
to be a preceptor for students while i am practicing.

Beyond that, I would like to teach at a PA program in the future. I think that would be
valuable, fulfilling and enjoyable to be involved in teaching the future generations of PAs

At nearly every job I've had, I end up being a trainer because I am good at it, I like it,
and I'm approachable. So I want to continue that as a PA whether just in my daily job,
as a preceptor, or as a professor. I like that each generation teaches the next
generation.

Outreach to local high schools to introduce underserved students to medical
professions

I notice on your transcript you have a few Cs, tell me what happened there and how you
expect that will go in PA school? - Answer-Part of it: didn't know what I wanted to do.
No clear path,
didnt know i would go back to school so didnt know grades mattered

Secondly: doing too much
- Santa barbara is an amazing city where there is countless opportunities.
Working 20 hours per week

volunteering here and there
