Body of the essay: Present three arguments to demonstrate the viewpoints of the three schools of thought (Functionalism, Conflict Theory and Interpretivism) applicable to the case study. 2.1 Firstly, identify which viewpoints represent which school of thought (Whose viewpoint does B, C and D represent ̶Functionalist, Conflict Theorist or Interpretivist?). (5) 2.2 Secondly, apply the theories mentioned above, and present arguments by using the case study text of the three schools of thought to construct the following arguments: 2.2.1 The functionalist’s argument applied to the case study (15) 2.2.2 The conflict theorist’s argument applied to the case study (15) 2.2.3 The interpretivist’s argument applied to the case study (15) 2.3 Thirdly, answer the following questions in detail: 32 - Are any of these views more correct? Will they make a difference in what teachers do? Substantiate your answer. (5) - Does any of these arguments make more sense to you than the others? (5) 3 Conclusion to the essay (no new information and/or argumentation): Conclude by stating the opposing views of the ‘roots of school failure’ of the three schools of thought respectively. (15) 4. References: List a wide array of cited references alphabetically according to the Harvard Method or the APA referencing style. (5) NB: Remember to paraphrase.
