Module 4 Short Responses – Question 1

1. Your best friend
2. People reading a newspaper editorial you've written
3. Your professor
4. The audience at a conference where you are presenting

1. I think that this audience would be cxonsidered very familiar and I would not need to carry
a formal tone. I still feel it is important if I am trying to convey a message than I will need to
provide as much detail as possible. This audience may be looking for basic information. If we
are best friends the friend is already biased and is going to be open to anything I say.

2. With this audience the expectations are much heavier. They will be looking for errors and I
believe that this is a situation that calls for a very formal tone because anyone could be
reading it. The level of detail provided should be a high level for this audience because once
again this is a unknown audience of anyone that will have high expectations. In a newspaper
editorial the audience will be wanting a detail arguement with facts to prove your side of the
arguement. I think that would be the expectation of anyone that reads a newspaper editorial.

3. My professor reading an essay is considered an acedemic formal audience. I would need to
use a extremely formal tone because I am trying to display my acedemic skills for a grade so
formality is important. The level of detail is important to achieve the best grade I will need to
provide a high level of detail and a critical thinking. Once again, I know that the reader will
be looking for detailed arguments with facts to back up and support my argument in this case.

4. This audience is much like a professor. All these people are me to seem like a real person
and I would need to have a down to earth tone with medium formality. If my tone is too
formal they may not like me or see me as non-relatable. I believe it would be extremely
important to provide them with the highest level and quality of detail just as if I was being
graded by a professor. I also think that these people would want a detailed argument with
supporting evidence to prove my argument. They are at a conference that I am speaking at
and there is implied expectations when you are at a conference and the main speaker. The
whole point is to get your point out there or to convince others about your topic or belief.

Module 4 Short Responses – Question 2

Consider how your audience might influence the information you include in an
historical analysis essay about the Women's Suffrage Movement.

What audience would be most interested in reading about the women's movement?
How would you tailor your presentation to that audience? What message would be most
appropriate for this audience?

I think that women would be most interested in the womens movement especially a person
who is an activist for womens rights. I can tailor my presentation to this audience because I
am a woman that can relate my frustrations with women being treated differently because of
