ALS Set B Version 1: 5th Edition
When you establish standards, you will need to keep four attributes in mind: - answer-
Achievable/Attainable, Specific (clearly defined), Observable (behavior can be seen),
Measurable (using quality, quantity, and timeliness)
Standards - answer-Are morals, ethics, or habits established by an authority, custom, or an
individual as accepted behavior.
NCO Authority - answer-Is defined as "the right to act and command", and is complimented by
three legal sources found within the UCMJ: Article 91, Article 92, and Article 7.

to control themselves and do what is right all the time, every time. When effective, involves
correcting, training, nurturing, and advising.
Preventive Discipline - answer-Stops a problem from happening BEFORE it starts. Examples
are: Initial Feedbacks, safety briefings before three-day weekends, rewards, and
training/education.
Progressive Discipline Process (PDP) - answer-is a progressive approach to discipline, it is a
foundational tool to use with wisdom and discretion. When an airman's performance falls below
the standard/line of acceptability (LOA), you must apply this, to ensure compliance and maintain
discipline.
Whether verbal or written, it is the first step in the PDP because it encourages two-way
communication. - answer-Counseling

Observing a Final Product.
Direct Observation - answer-Is probably the most popular way of monitoring performance.
Indirect Observation - answer-You may have to use this method of monitoring, if you have
several Airmen, your Airmen are on different shifts or they work in different locations. Seek this
from trusted peers or leaders so you receive unbiased and honest observations.
Checking Completed Work, Products or Services - answer-A third way to observe Airman
performance by talking to customers who received the product or service.
Common errors raters make when evaluating their Airmen. - answer-Leniency, Harshness,
Recency, Past Performance Error, Central Tendency, Contrast Error, Halo Effect, First
Impression Error, The Similar-to-Me Effect, and One-way Communication and Close-
mindedness.
Central Tendency - answer-The tendency to evaluate all people as average regardless of
differences in performances.
Halo Effect - answer-The tendency to evaluate based o one outstanding (positive) trait or
