issues and challenges that have emerged in this era.
[10]
, Answers / explanation :
2. ) The anthropocene is the name that is used to refer to the era of
humankind and its geological force.
A) Biodiversity Loss
This is an increasing issue and challenge in South Africa due to human
socio-economic activities, with the aquatic ecosystem being most
affected. Humans rely on biodiversity for oxygen, food and raw
materials, biodiversity loss therefore has a negative impact on human
livelihood.
B) Climate ChangeThe rising levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere
have resulted
in global warming and climate change which has resulted in significant
impacts on the global and local environment such as extreme weather
events, changes in rainfall patterns, frequent droughts and even floods.
C) Food Insecurity

across the world and water being a significant requirement for
agricultural production. Rural people are very dependent on rainfall
supply for agricultural purposes. The population also plays a major role
as there is a higher demand for food sources.
D) Water Scarcity
Fresh water scarcity is a major environmental problem of the 21 st
century and also with a growing population,it has placed an increasing
demand of the Earth’s limited freshwater. The availability of water is
also threatened by climate change such as drought. Also the high
demand for water ,poor water management and water quality threatens
the continued water availability.
E) Population Growth
According to statistical data, there are 7.5 billion people on Earth and still
growing. This is a major problem for countries and places which are
developing such as Africa and this also places stress on environmental
resources such as water, food, housing and energy.
* These are key global environmental challenges and issues which have
emerged during this era. It is important to emphasize your explanation and
ensure your wording is correct
