What does the WCF say about the importance of the Church? Answer - The
WCF says that the church, under Christ, has been given "the ministry, oracles,
and ordinances of God, for the gathering and perfecting of the saints in this life,
to the end of the world..." (WCF Chapter XXV.III). The preaching of the word is
effectual because Christ makes it so (Omnibus Textbook page 11). This shows
that the church is extremely important according to the WCF.
How are Christians saved according to the WCF? Answer - According to the
WCF, someone is saved when God has "taken away their heart of stone, and
given unto them a heart of flesh...and determining them to that which is good"
(WCF X.I). Then, the elected must accept the gift of eternal life that he offers by
faith in Christ. They are given the Holy Spirit and saved (WCF VII.III).
According to the WCF why is it so important that Christ be both God and Man?
Answer - Because Christ is both God and man, he can be "thoroughly furnished
to execute the office of a Mediator and Surety" (WCF VIII.III), each nature (God
and man) "doing that which is proper to itself" (WCF VIII.VII).
How is this double nature not a contradiction? Answer - He took man's nature,
with all its essential properties yet without its sin, so that he could be both God
and Man "without conversion, composition, or confusion" (WCF VIII.II).
How did the WCF fail as a political document, and yet so greatly influence the
American colonists? Answer - The Westminster Confession of Faith was
originally intended to be a political document that would unify England,
, Ireland, and Scotland. While it never caught on in England, the Scotts loved it
and brought it to America where it was widely received as essentially one of
the founding documents of America (Omnibus Textbook page 4).
What are the two sacraments of the Protestant church? Answer - The two
sacraments of the Protestant church are Baptism and the Lord's Supper (The
Westminster Confession of Faith Chapter XXVII.IV).
How might the English Civil War be categorized as more similar to a
reformation than a revolution? Answer - The English Civil War is more similar
to a reformation than a revolution because it transformed religion across
Europe. It not only introduced a new way of Protestant thinking, but gained
equal or even superseding popularity to Catholicism through Martin Luther.
That reformation of ideas lasted through the ages until the present day.
Why is a biblical understanding of the Trinity so important in all areas of life?
Answer - A biblical understanding of the Trinity is so important in all areas of
life because God calls His followers to get to know Him. If we did not have a
basic understanding of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, our relationship with
God would be impaired. That is not to say we have to know every, single, little
thing about God because He is full of mysteries that will never be resolved until
we get to Heaven. But we should be diligent to study Him and His Word.
If we don't put God in our work it may give us pleasure but it will be temporary
and it won't be fulfilling because we aren't 'working with' God. As Christians we
can't just go to work on Sunday, we have to have Him in all our lives so
unbelievers can see a difference in our lives, truly, and we have to take it to the
home, parents are told to teach their kids about God so they can go into the
world prepared, as well. Faith is an all time thing. Faith is an action.
How do faith and reason fit together? Answer - Faith is always aligned with
reason. We have faith because we know God has been faithful and will be
faithful. We have reason for what we believe. But there are times when it
