Sheffield
Topography
The topography of Sheffield is mostly flat. Various hills in urban areas with housing and
schools. The town cenre is on flat land meaning it is easy for residents and tourists to walk
around for leisure giving it a leisurely feel. As the city centre is open and flat, this gives the
idea that it is a
significant urban
area as locations
which are “main
parts” of a place are
open and on flat
land, making it
convenient for
people to walk on.

Physical Geography

Sheffield is mostly urban, covered with housing, infrastructure, shops and more. The are
small patches of grass surrounded by urban areas which suggests if there is rain or other
poor weather, it tends to slide across the impermeable surfaces and there is minimal water
cycle action through the soil, making the environment non ideal when there is poorly
weather. This gives the idea to people that if they choose to visit, they may only visit during
summer – when weather improves. There is minimal woodland and a river cutting through
main roads of north west Sheffield.

nicely. The choices of shops reflects that towards the inner part of Sheffield, there is a
younger population. This means that there are multiple places to go that a young population
would enjoy and a more active community.
There is also a town hall which builds a sense of community within Sheffield, the cathedral
does this too as Christians feel they have something in common with part of the population,
bringing the community closer

This article mentions how Sheffield has lost 17.8% of its stores. Sheffield used to be
percepted as unique for its shops alongside its character of historical architecture however
it is now simply “another soulless identical place”. Sheffield has less uniqueness meaning it
has less original character therefore it may begin to gradually lose its level of tourism and
people who choose to live there or go to university there. Sheffield may become less ideal to
people internally and external populations.

Built environment
There is a large cathedral which has a 15th century towered, it is quite old fashioned and
historical elaborate architecture. The cathedral is very large and all these features combined
therefore it gives the Sheffield a significantly unique historical.
There are also other buildings located around the city centre which have the historical
architecture which matches the cathedral. People are therefore likely to associate Sheffield
as a beautiful location to visit for fun and therefore there is likely a lot of tourism.
The city centre has many shops, specifically clothes shops, giving a modern feel which
contrasts to the historical architecture situated throughout Sheffield. Furthermore, the open
