Instructions: Visit the Virginia Museum of Fine arts to complete this assignment. You will need
your textbook to answer some of these questions. If you do not want to take your textbook to
the museum, you may want to take photographs of the objects at the museum (do not use
flash). You will also need to take notes on the objects that you photograph in order to answer
some of these questions.

You will also want to read through these questions before you go to the museum. Some of the
questions will have two parts. The first part will be a question about an artwork from your
textbook and the second part will be a question about a similar artwork in the VMFA.

YOU MUST USE A PENCIL AT THE VMFA! (They will not allow you to take notes with pen.)

This assignment includes short answer and essay questions. Take notes on this paper while you
are visiting the museum. When you return home TYPE up the essay portions of this assignment.
You may type or write your short answers, but they must be legible.

You must use complete sentences for short essays and essays. These will be noted, otherwise a
list or short answer will suffice.

ALL OF YOUR ANSWERS MUST BE YOUR OWN.

Use the Starter Kit terms in your final essay (the elements of art and principles of design). This is
a descriptive essay, I don't need a lot of context. You don't need to do research for this.

Maintain the format of the project. Do not give me a list of answers. You will receive a ZERO.
You must include the questions in order to receive full credit.
If an item is missing from the museum collection, check blackboard. I post objects that have
been temporarily removed. Check prior to your trip to the VMFA.

****Include a picture of YOU and the image that you choose for your essay in your
project. This will act as your honor signature for this project. Projects without this
image will receive a ZERO.

VMFA hours:
Sat – Wed: 10 am – 5 pm
Thu + Fri: 10 am – 9 pm
For more information about visiting the VMFA see:

When you arrive at the VMFA get a gallery map to help guide you. They are on the wall to the
right-hand side of the gift shop. If you are having trouble finding them, or need help at any
time, ask the museum staff at the desk across from the gift shop.

the other statue.
