, 3. Where Do I Fit In Now?
Reflecting on my current position within the economic landscape, I find myself navigating a
complicated and multifaceted space. I acknowledge my privileges: access to education,
technology, and a stable environment that empowers me to pursue my aspirations. This
access is undeniably a significant advantage compared to individuals, such as child laborers
in the DRC, who are ensnared in cycles of poverty and exploitation.


However, I am acutely aware that these privileges also come with challenges. The economic
disparities of our world are unsettling. While I reap the benefits of the global economic
system, I cannot overlook the moral dilemmas associated with the vast wealth amassed by a
select few at the expense of many. This duality creates a sense of conflict within me.
Although I feel grateful for my opportunities, I also experience discomfort regarding the
systemic injustices that enable such inequalities.


Positioned within this global economic framework, I grapple with feelings of both fortune and
unease. I recognize the responsibilities that accompany my status and the need to engage
critically with how my actions, choices, and future career might perpetuate or challenge
these inequalities.


4. At the End of My Life…
At the conclusion of my life, I aspire to leave behind a legacy that embodies a well-lived,
eudaimonic existence. Eudaimonia, often interpreted as "human flourishing," is a pivotal
concept in virtue ethics that conveys a life filled with purpose, meaning, and fulfillment
(Aristotle, Nicomachean Ethics). I envision my legacy as one marked by positive
contributions to society—not solely through personal achievements but also through tangible
efforts to reduce inequality and promote justice.


To realize this vision, I understand the significance of cultivating key virtues, or arête. For
me, these encompass compassion, integrity, and wisdom. Compassion will motivate me to
genuinely care for others, ensuring my actions stem from a sincere concern for those less
fortunate. Integrity will guide me to uphold my values, making choices that align with ethical
principles rather than seeking personal gain. Wisdom, or phronesis, will assist me in
navigating life's complexities, enabling me to balance these virtues appropriately.


Nonetheless, I acknowledge that these virtues can pose challenges. Unchecked compassion
may lead to burnout or vulnerability to exploitation. Excessive integrity could render me
inflexible or resistant to necessary change. Additionally, wisdom without compassion might
result in a cold, calculating approach. Thus, I will strive to harmonize these virtues, utilizing
phronesis to apply them wisely across varied contexts.
