1. The word “Hujurat” means “the apartments”; the name of the comes from ayah 4.
2. The topics mentioned in the surat are the manners of the believers; how they should
address the prophet (PBUH), how they should address each other and how they should
behave with each other. This topic is mentioned in ayat 2-5. The second topic mentioned
is in ayat 6; the ayah talks about how they should not believe news blindly without
confirming it. The third topic is mentioned in 9 and 10; these ayahs talk about certain
behaviors a muslim should adopt if two groups fall into mutual fighting. The fourth topic
is mentioned in ayah 11 and 12; the ayahs talk about certin behaviors a muslim should
not show; otherwise the musslim society would be corrupt, thsese behaviors include
backbiting, suspicions, spying and calling them by nicknames they do not like. The fifth
and final topic is how Allah (SWT) created us from a male and a female then divided us
into tribes and nations so we may recognise each other and accept differences. The ayah
also mentions some of the characterististics of sincere believers. Iman is a higher level
than Islam.
3. Spying is mentioned after suspicion because after you're done making a suspicion about
someone; you will go out there and start spying to prove your suspicion; and you may as
well come back and talk to others about what you realized.
4. Backbiting is described in the surah as eating your brother's flesh when he is dead; in
other words it is a metaphor. Would you like to eat your brother's flesh when he is dead?
No? Then do not talk about them behind their back.
5. Allah (SWT) created different nations and tribes so we may recognize each other; accept
differences and embrace each other as one big family.
6. The difference between Iman and Islam is Islam is the practical part of our religion while
Imaan is the spiritual part. We can say we are muslims but we are not true muslims unless
our imaan is at a higher level than Islam.
