Ethical Leader
One of the things that I feel is most important in this day in age is ethical conduct. We live in
a world where scandal is rampant, and everyone looks to take one another down. One of the most
ethical people I know is my mother, Terri Leifeste, as she has built her career in the newspaper
industry one step at a time. She has done so by using her integrity and true hard work to ensure
that small newspapers are still relevant even in a digital age.
Mrs. Leifeste started her career by showing her integrity in her high school newspaper by
covering any story assigned to her whether it be positive or negative. She continued to do this
throughout her career and showed she wanted to earn the position she has held. There was an
ongoing news story that no one wanted to cover, 9/11/2011, where she told her reporters they
would stay true to what happened and get feedback from the local area. This eliminated some of
the national bias of politicians from the stories. She let all her top reporters write a story since it
was something that everyone would read about while exhibiting, she wanted to be fair not only
to her employees but to the public by providing more than one outlook on the situation.
Mrs. Leifeste also shows her integrity and fairness in her personal life. Her first husband put
her and the community they lived in into a bad situation as he was a doctor. She took the proper
steps to ensure that not only her community but her family would be safe. She urged him to get
the help she needed and cooperated with everyone who was involved. She realized that being a
public figure meant that she may not be treated fairly, but she kept her integrity in all the
information and respected each inquiry. She wanted both law enforcement, the medical board
