, Introduction:

According to DuBrin (2003), leadership is the ability to inspire confidence and support among

the people who are needed to achieve organizational goals. The meaning of ethics, and to be

ethical, is different for everyone. What is ethical for one person might not be ethical for other.

So, what does ethics means? Ethics is a set of morals and principles or values. Today,

organizations identify what is appropriate and what’s inappropriate behavior and communicates

this through code of conduct or ethics code. To reinforce the knowledge and understanding of the

code of conduct or policies, organizations implement trainings conducted typically during the

new hire orientation period. The thought behind this is that if communicated in form of

handbook and or policy acknowledgement and reinforced by trainings, the employees “should”

know what the ethical expectations are the company enforces. This is not always the case, many

employees will not pay attention nor read what they sign which puts the organization in jeopardy.

Two ethical traits:

I. I will be discussing how my manager Jazz Hamilton, Human Resource Director is

exemplifying ethical behaviors. The two traits that Jazz Hamilton is demonstrating on a

daily basis are: transparency and leadership by example. As Jazz would say “we hold

ourselves accountable first,” by being open and honest in our practices, goals, and

decisions. Jazz shares his monthly goals with not only his team but we share our goals

across the organization. This allows us the transparency about how our organization is

doing. We share our success and our failures. Transparency is a core value for us at First

Step House.
II. Talk the talk but also walk the walk. This is something that I have seen Jazz

demonstrating. When he commits doing something, you know that it will be done.
