The Mayo Clinic does an excellent job of practicing and implementing corporate

social responsibility (CSR). Mayo Clinic makes it clear that their primary value is the

needs of their patients and how all of their patients comes first since patients are one of

their most important stakeholders. For example, on the second page of Mayo Clinic's

code of ethics, they list their values, and the needs of their patients are listed as their

number one primary value. Another example of how Mayo Clinic practices CSR is in the

letter from their President and Chief Executive Officer, he states how all the choices

made in the company every must be honest, ethical, and how they are accountable for

their own decisions. They clearly say how they want to manage their business ethically

and are fully aware of how it can impact society.

Legal Mandates

Mayo Clinic's code of ethics does a splendid job with outlining laws their

employees must abide by and what the consequences are if rules are broken. For

example, in their code of ethics, it is clearly stated why the employees must Integrity

and Compliance training program. The code of ethics has sections like "Confidential

Information and Trade Secrets, Books and Records, Patient Health Information," and

within each section, there are different laws that are listed, why they are significant, and

how each employee must abide by the law. For example, Mayo Clinic included the Anti-

Corruption Laws in their code of ethics. They stated what the law is and the importance

of not accepting bribes and how to appropriately report any suspicious activities.

that Mayo Clinic can face criminal prosecution, civil liability, and fines if laws are

violated.

Safeguards

All businesses must have safeguards in place to help with remaining in

compliance with all rules and laws. For example, Mayo Clinic established an Integrity

and Compliance training program. All employees must complete this training if they

want to work for the company. Another safeguard the company created was creating a

department called The Integrity and Compliance Office, where it is located at all

locations of the company. These safeguards are put in place to help the company and

its employees not break any rules and regulations. It can help avoid detrimental

problems like patients suing the company or an employee committing fraud. Having

these safeguards help the company and its employees ethically practice business and

avoid committing illegal acts by having compliance resources readily available and

stating what is morally right and wrong.
