TH GLOBALIZATION
INTRODUCTION
Globalization is one of the most dominant forces facing education in
the 21stcentury. Fundamentally, it is the closer integration of the countries
and peoples of the world which has been brought about by the enormous
reduction of costs of transportation and communication and the breaking
down of artificial barriers to the flows of goods, services, capital,
knowledge and (to a lesser extent) people across boarders (Stiglitz, 2003).
The term conveys a sense that international forces are driving more and
more developments in the world and thus, crystallizes both the hopes of
some people that will finally achieve a global society and the fears of many
other that their lives and jobs are threatened by forces beyond their control
(Chronicle of Higher Education, 1998).
This module comprises five lessons which will solely discuss the
nature and history of globalization. This includes, namely Lesson 1-
Introduction to Globalization: Defining globalization, Lesson 2- The
Structures of Globalization: The Global Economy, Lesson 3- Market
Integration, Lesson 4- The Global Interstate System, and Lesson 5-
