My instructional setting for the subject of reading consists of two 5th graders,
four 4th graders, and three 3rd graders with learning disabilities in the largest school
district in Missouri. One of my students has an emotional disturbance, one student
is autistic, and seven have a specific learning disability in various areas. My school
is a Title One school meaning over 90% of our students are on free or reduced
lunches. Many of my students come from trauma backgrounds. These elements
highly impact their learning. Due to their trauma backgrounds, different academic
levels, and learning disabilities lesson planning can be quite the challenge. My
students’ reading abilities are very low with most being more than 2 grade levels
below. I have 9 students for reading minutes, but only the 4th and 3rd graders will
take the objective – based assessment as the two 5th graders are above this level.
The data will be discussed about my 3rd and 4th grade students. The objectives for
the assessments, strengths, and growth areas will be discussed for each assessment.
Objective-Based Assessment
An objective – based assessment is an assessment in which there is only
one correct answer. This assessment typically consists of true/false, multiple
choice, or matching questions. My students participated in an assessment for
reading Dolch sight words. Each student was tested one-on-one at the teacher
