complete, stop the transfusion and call the HCP. Acetaminophen

reaction is not suspected.

Urticarial reaction= Hives. Associated with antigens in the
blood. Stop transfusion when hives start and notify MD. They
will likely be given a dose of antihistamine. Monitor them
closely if the transfusion is started again.

Hemolytic reaction= caused by the transfusion of incompatible
blood. Anaphylactic reaction= Seen in people that have had
many transfusions or many pregnancies. Reaction is often very
fast and presents with cardiovascular or respiratory collapse.
Stay with the patient and have someone else notify the MD.
Start CPR if needed until the code team gets there.

Circulatory overload= Caused by rapid transfusion in a short
amount of time. Big concern for pedi patients! S+SX of
pulmonary edema. Stop transfusion and call MD. Transfusion
may start again later at a slower rate. May be given a diuretic
with the blood if the volume is too much.
