TEACHER LANGUAGE

This part of the assignment is set to enable us to assess your language grading and concept checking.

You must use direct speech, e.g.'OK everyone, listen very carefully because I'm going to tell you what to do next.
On the wall there are pictures of 12 animals. On these orange cards (hold up a card) are the names of the
animals. I'll give everyone a card with some blu-tack (show back of card with a blob of blu-tack). Take your card
and stick it to the correct animal picture. Juan, what are you going to do with your orange card?'

You might need to put in some predicted student responses for the vocabulary teaching part.

N.B. If you do not use direct speech, you will be required to resubmit the whole assignment.

Give word for word the language you could use for:

A) Presenting 3 of your selected vocabulary items which would need to be concept checked,
Show how you would elicit, explain and concept check each of the three items.

Okay class, listen carefully. We will now look at some vocabulary items that you might not know. By getting
to know these words first, it will be easier for you when reading the text later. I will tell you the definition or
show you a picture, you will then need to try guess the word.

Here is a picture for the first word “convoy”. As you can see in the picture, it shows a line of trucks travelling
together. Considering that all the trucks look the same we can assume that they are travelling together, thus
they are considered a convoy. Now there will be times when the vehicles don’t look the same but if they are
travelling together to the same destination, we consider it to be a convoy.
Examples of convoys would be a presidential convoy or circus group travelling their next show location.
Now lets use the word in a sentence:
- The American president arrived in England today and I saw the convoy travelling towards the
Queens palace.

The next item of vocabulary that we will look at is protests. When people show or express their
disagreement on something, we call that a protest. Here is a picture of the protests that took place in Hong
Kong. As you can see in the picture the people have signs expressing what they want and as seen on their
faces you can see that they are unhappy about something.

Have you been involved in a protest before? What was the protest about? How did you protest? (I would
evaluate their understanding based on their answers.)

The next item of vocabulary is a famous prehistoric monument in Southern England that is made out of
stone. Hint, the name of the monument as the word stone in it. Does anyone know the name of the
monument? No? well I am talking about Stonehenge (I show the picture to the class). Have any of you seen
or heard of it before?

Well done everybody!
