How Cultural Views and Values Drive Human Behavior As individuals, we differ in a variety

of ways, including our family life, cultural views, personal upbringings, individual values,

social interactions, and traits which make us unique. A law, or the process of creating a law,

reflects society and what it deems to be acceptable. People who adhere to social norms and fit

closely with societal expectations are those who adhere to the law. In addition to the

inequalities that exist between humans, societal norms are not universally accepted, resulting

in opposing views from individuals. Individuals may perform criminal acts or engage in

deviant behavior as a means of opposition. A subculture consists of individuals whose views

differ from those of the prevailing society. A subculture is a "subdivision within the dominant

culture that has its own norms, beliefs, and values" (Alder, 2021). "Subcultures typically

emerge when people in similar circumstances find themselves isolated from the mainstream

and band together for mutual support" (Adler, 2021). In this way, a subculture is created

when friction between members of a particular culture occurs. According to subcultural

theories, delinquent behavior is explained by cultural factors. The cause of this disorder has

been attributed to social strain and generational conflict, but other theories suggest that
