This report shows two countries of different socio-economic backgrounds one is from Germany a
European higher income country, and one is from Nigeria a non- European developing country. I have
received the information from (World Banks, 2021) open data website. For Germany and Nigeria, the
data covers 50 years from 1972 till 2021. However, there is some data missing when I obtained
information From Germany such as labor force 1972-1989, unemployment, total (% of total labor force)
(national estimate) from 1972-1982. On the other hand, Nigeria is also missing information for labor
, force from 1972-1989 and for unemployment 1972-1987 and then again for 1989-1991. The data is also
missing data for gross saving and government final consumption from 1972-1980

1.1 Descriptive Statistics
Figure 1 presents the descriptive statistics for Nigeria and Germany between 1972-2021. The first
column represents life expectancy at birth in years.

We can see the mean life expectancy of Germany which is 76.72 which we can see an increase from
2005 as the mean life expectancy from 1972-2005 was 75.20. The increase in life expectancy seen in
Germany is due to having a “better health care system…. and in 2008 the IN-FORM initiative was
launched to promote healthier lifestyle and exercise.” 1 The median for Germany is 76.87 and the mode
is not applicable for this set of data. On the other hand, Nigeria’s life expectancy is lower than Germany
with a life expectancy of 47.76 as they do not have the same level of healthcare or education that can be
seen in Germany. The median for Nigeria is 46.53 which is quite close to the mean and again the mode is
