Modern Educational Systems
- What are modern educational systems?
○ Emerged in modern times since 18th century, and distinguishes themselves from
pastoral system in the Middle Ages in Europe, it does so with 2 major elements b
discuss why?
○ Schooling systems began to be organized at the national states (Belgian educatio
vs American, etc.)
○ Includes the masses, public education emerges
- How did this occur and why or at least what are the popular narratives of why it came
so forth?
○ a common narrative which will be complicated in this course is that our schoolin
we know it today is based off of industrial school
○ It was established during the industrialization period where the factory owners/
educated workforce
- Teaching profession was important, professionalization of teaching profession and mo
are entangled, why is that? And what are the implications for the position of teachers
educational structures they work in?
- Education as. Gendered phenomenon and how it is interest with race, all are women,
younger the child the more the women you find, why is that? It was not longer the cas
speaking it was male dominant profession, so what about the feminization, nowadays
women receive the same curriculum which was not the case before, the increasing cla
people into categories establishing different institutions for (girls in girl school, disabili
ed schools as from 19th century) this also holds true for the category of race, and she
focus on the history of colonialism
